Which MOT Class is my vehicle?

Most vehicles will need a Class 4 MOT test. This covers most private cars and vans up to 3t. Vans over 3t will need a Class 7 MOT test and these need to be performed at a workshop with the appropriate bay. What if my vehicle doesn’t pass?

We hope your vehicle passes with flying colours, but sometimes there are minor or advisory problems, or even major or dangerous issues. If they are major or dangerous, then you may not be able to drive your vehicle away until it’s repaired as it’s not deemed safe for you or other road users. Once the repairs have been made and your vehicle has passed its MOT test, you’ll be able to drive away with peace of mind that your vehicle is running smoothly and that you’ll get from A to B and beyond.

Fortunately, major/dangerous advisories are rare. More often, cars and vans will have minor advisories, which are things that should be looked at but don’t need fixing immediately. Martin Motor Group can also perform these repairs for you at a time that suits you.

Will my vehicle still need a service?

An MOT test is not a substitute for a service as it doesn’t cover all the same checks and doesn’t include things like top-ups and repairs. It’s often more economical and time-saving to book your vehicle in for a service at the same time. That way we can alert you to any issues that might arise before the MOT test is performed, so you can get them sorted and save a possible re-test. It can also save you a visit to the garage later on.
